Description

Souvenir large format "Lucky Penny" from the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.  This is one of two or three primary designs that you will commonly see, and perhaps the simplest of them.  I found a catalog reference to this piece; it is listed as CALIF 760 E (not imaged), in "Large Lucky Souvenir Coins" by Stephen Alpert (1979, probably out of print now).  While somewhat common overall, due to the materials used, the heavy weight and their service as an inexpensive souvenir, these tend to come knocked up.  This item is an exception, and while not fully Gem is Choice Uncirculated and about as nice as they come. The Copper plating is complete other than the patch on Liberty's cheek, where the plating failed to adhere properly and bubbled, later to flake off in the century of storage.  A couple of light rim knocks where it was dropped at one point.  These are Copper-plated Zinc or White Metal alloy, and were artificially "antiqued" after plating.  Offered out of my reference collection of PPIE Exonumia.  I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items – please use the ebay Shopping Cart feature and ASK FOR AN INVOICE before payment.
