Description
This medal is a souvenir ofthe State of Oregon pavilion at the 1915 World's Fair in San Francisco, the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE)
.
The obverse shows the Oregon State Building, which resembled the Parthenon, with each column being a single Douglas fir tree! The pavilion's name is beneath the image, and the words
PANAMA PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION SAN FRANCISCO, 1915
are along the rim. The mark of the manufacturer (Whitehead & Hoag) is at the bottom. The reverse shows the Oregon State Seal, with
STATE OF OREGON * 1859
along the rim. This medal
is composed of bronze and measures approximately 38 mm (1-1/2") in diameter, qualifying it as a 'so-called dollar' (
catalogued as HK-411).
The item is in extremely fine condition, with very light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and limited soiling, and it is bright.
