AMAZING BIRD WITH NEST OF EGGS STICK PIN
This listing features a fabulous hat or stick pin that has a hand painted miniature landscape of a flying bird over a nest of three eggs. It’s painted on foil backed glass and framed in a brass. The detail is truly amazing.
The framed image measures 3/4 inches long by 1/2 inches wide by 1/8 inches thick and is attached to a short pin measuring 3 inches (including the framed decoration). It is unsigned to my eyes, but I could have never seen well enough to paint this tiny thing.
Every part of this pin is original. The only negative issue concerns the brass which has patina that could stand a little polishing. I leave this to the next owner. The image is flawless.
It belonged to my grandmother, who was a devoted world traveler between the 30s and the 50s. My educated guess is it was acquired abroad, during the earlier travel years. It is a short stick pin so would have been legal to sell and use longer than very early longer length hat pins. I’m not sure what the weapon laws were about stick or hat pins this short but it was probably deemed safe.
