    Description

On offer is an original flyer for the Second Annual Ivy Jazz Band Ball, a big blowout on Thanksgiving Night, Nov 26, 1959, in the Grand Ballroom at the Astor Hotel in New York's Times Square. Dancing to Stan Rubin Orch and his small group, the Tigertown Five ("of Grace Kelly Fame"--they played at her wedding in Monaco). Rubin apparently organized this event. Jazz by a big contingent of name players, including Wild Bill Davison, Pee Wee Russell, Bob Wilber, Wilbur DeParis, Max Kaminsky, and J.C. Higginbotham. There were also college jazz groups from Colgate, Princeton, Vassar, and others. But wait, there's more! The 12-year-old jazz sensations, drummer Barry Miles and trumpeter Glenn Zottola, also performed, and Miss Rheingold and Miss New York were on hand to wave and smile.
This original flyer measures 9.5 x 12.5 inches and is printed on plain paper. Condition is good. It has been folded three times horizontally and shows general use and wear, and small closed tears. Small piece missing on the right side, and a 1/2-inch closed tear on the left side. A few words written in pencil on the right edge. Please examine the photo carefully before bidding.
