Description
Goldsmith O. Førlie, Norway. This company can write its history all the way back to 2 August 1861 when Hans Førlie took goldsmith citizenship in Fredrikshald with a certificate of competence for the goldsmiths A. Frisch and J. Bryde in Drammen.
Shortly afterwards, Olaus Førlie joined the company after being apprenticed to the same goldsmiths. Through marriage to Anna Førlie, one of the daughters of Olaus Førlie, Marcus Goplen entered the company.
After him, Odd Even Goplen took over the business. His son, Børre, later became the owner of the company. Today it is Børre's daughter, Lona Goplen, who carries on the family traditions.
Goldsmithing in Halden can be traced all the way back to the 16th century. One of the country's leading goldsmiths, Christian Bæhr, ran his business in Halden in the 17th century.
His successors Anders Brun and Lorentz Hoffmann are also towering names in Norwegian craftsman history. In the middle of the 19th century, there were no less than six goldsmiths' companies in Halden. These had several apprentices and boys.
