    Description

This listing is for a set of six (6) original Proof Set of the British Virgin Islands' first official coinage.  It was minted by THE FRANKLIN MINT under authorization of the Government of the British Virgin Islands.  The First Coinage of the British Virgin Islands is dated 1973. Since the British VI is a British Crown Colony, all of its current must be approved by Queen Elizabeth II and the obverse of each coin must bear the official portrait of Her Majesty.
The solid sterling silver one-dollar coin has a magnificent Frigate Bird portrait on that coin.  The Brown Pelican is shown on the 50 cent piece, the Mangrove Cuckoos is illustrated on the 25 cent piece, The Ringed Kingfisher is depicted on the ten-cent coin and the Zenaida Dove is on the five-cent piece and the Green-Throated Carib and Antillean Crested Hummingbird are portrayed on the bronze one-cent piece. The other pieces are cupro-nickle.
The coins come in the original case which does have damage on the top of the box, the Certificate of Authenticity and other paperwork issued by the Franklin Mint back in the early 1970's.  These coins were purchased by my father and have been in a smoke and pet free home.
Shipping cost is based on 2 lbs.
